Two burglars who tried to break into an occupied home have been arrested thanks to the quick thinking of a 12-year-old boy.
The incident happened in mid-February, according to a report by Patch.com, when the young man was home alone. He realized that criminals were trying to break into his home so he grabbed his cell phone, ran upstairs and locked himself in the bathroom.
Riverside Police Department officers (along with a helicopter and K-9 unit) were dispatched immediately. Suffice to say the would-be burglars were caught totally off guard; they were arrested and taken into custody without further incident.
The now defendants have been identified as 21 year-old Derek Sibauste and 18 year-old Austin Parks. One man was booked at the Banning Jail on multiple felony charges, including conspiracy and suspicion of burglary. The other was taken to the Robert Presley Detention Center.
Bail bonds for the defendants had been set at $35,000 each.
