A 35 year-old Indio man found himself in pretty hot water last week after he allegedly drove while intoxicated and crashed his car into a traffic light.
Sources close to the Indio Jail said the driver then made an attempt to flee the scene of the crime. The car was disabled as a result of the crash, according to a report by Press Enterprise, so the driver tried to get away on foot.
Police said a witness to the crime chased him down and detained him until law enforcement arrived on scene. The suspect was taken to a hospital to get medical clearance before he was transported to the Indio Jail.
He was later charged with misdemeanor DUI and hit and run. His bail bond were set at $2,500, which is very low for this type of crime. In most other places in California, defendants who are charged with a DUI that results in a crash will have their bail bonds set at $100,000 or more.
