Sources close to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department have confirmed the new Indio Jail, also known as the East County Detention Center has a number of vacant positions that need to be filled.
This is why the county will be posting a job fair at on Dec. 13 at the sheriff’s department Thermal Station.
The new, $260 million facility is set to open on Dec. 16 and will house roughly 1,634 inmates on 6 acres of land.
The sheriff’s department said they are always hiring to fill positions that have been left vacant to retirement or attrition, but they will still need additional staff to help ensure the new jail has enough cooks, corrections officers and other types of support staff.
Corrections applicants will need to pass a physical agility test, pass a polygraph, psychological evaluation and background check and will need to pass a written exam. They will also be subject to drug and alcohol screening.
All applicants will be brought up to speed on the types of positions that are available and how the application process will work for each one.
