A spokesperson for the Southwest Detention Center jail said they are holding a Lake Elsinore man who was arrested after being pulled over for a routine traffic stop.
Authorities say defendant Jon Thomas was not only driving on a suspended license, he was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and narcotics. The incident reportedly took place last weekend on Indian Truck trail at Temescal Canyon Road. Sheriff’s deputies say they initially pulled Thomas over with the intention to cite him for an equipment violation. A quick computer screen of his drivers license indicated he was not supposed to be operating a vehicle.
His car was subsequently searched. Narcotics, a digital scale and other drug paraphernalia were discovered. Thomas was arrested on the spot and transported to the Southwest Detention Center in order to be booked and processed. He is being charged with possession of a controlled substance, transportation and sale of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license and committing a felony while out on bail. Thomas’ bail has been set at $175,000, meaning the cost to purchase a bond would be 10% or $17,500.
If his family is unable to pay that full amount up front they may be eligible to enroll in a bail bonds payment plan as long as there is a cosigner that has good credit. The bondsman may also request full or partial collateral. That item would be returned to whoever posted it at the end of the defendant’s case, provided he attends all of his court appearances. The bondsman’s fee, though, is nonrefundable.
Thomas is scheduled to be arraigned later this week.
