A woman who is best known for her appearance on America’s Next Top Model remains in custody at the Riverside County Jail. The Sheriff’s Department website shows she is being held on at least 10 different felonies.
The story first hit the airways after TMZ reported that aspiring model Renee Alway was detained after a standoff in Palm Springs. The 27 year-old blond was handcuffed at the close of a six-hour incident.
Palm Springs Police said they received a call that a suspicious female was seen wandering throughout the area. This concerned residents in the mostly quiet retirement community. Officers responded almost immediately. A quick sweep of the area led them to a home that was seemingly broken into. Their suspicions were correct.
The defendant was able to gain entry through an unlocked back door, they said. Officers found her hiding in the garage. She was in possession of a firearm. SWAT team officials were dispatched. They spent more than six hours trying to cajole another armed suspect to surrender. It was later learned that Alway was the only person inside the condo.
It is believed she may have been high on drugs when she was discovered.
Alway was arrested, read her Miranda Rights and was transported to the Banning Jail. County officials have confirmed she is being detained in lieu of $150,000. Alway is being charged with multiple counts of burglary and intent to defraud.
Her case is being handled by a public defender. It does not appear as if she has reached out to a Riverside bail bonds company for assistance in getting out of jail. If she does hire a bondsman her cost would be 10%, or in this case, $15,000. That sum is nonrefundable regardless as to the outcome of the case.
This is not the first time the defendant has found herself on the wrong side of the law. She was reportedly detained in early April on multiple felony counts including theft of a firearm and for trying to stop a witness from testifying. Police said she was detained a second time about two weeks later.
That arrest related to receiving stolen property. The defendant was also found to be in possession of an illegal narcotic. Alway was taken into custody a third time in early June. This time she was trying to pass a bad check.
It was also learned she was attempting to open a credit card using someone else’s information.
Riverside County Jail records show she is due to appear in an Indio court later this month.
