A local, favorite barbecue restaurant has donated more than $5,000 to the Riverside Police Department Officer’s Association to kick off the opening of its newest location.
The money was raised at the eatery’s VIP grand opening event, they said. A spokesperson for association said they are grateful for the support, saying they could not have asked for a nicer group of people.
The money will be used in several different ways, they said, including helping to assist families of officers who are injured or killed while they are on the job.
They’ll also allocate funds to help veterans that are living in transitional housing facilities, and may use some to help buy backpacks for underprivileged kids.
This, however, is not the first time the franchise owners have helped raise funds for the Riverside Police Department.
Earlier this year, they helped put together a car show to help raise proceeds for the families of two slain officers. One worked with the Riverside PD, they said, while the other worked at the sheriff’s department.
