A spokesperson for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed a 42 year-old Indio man was taken into custody last week after he allegedly rode his bicycle while intoxicated, and steered into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
Many people are unaware that people on skateboards, roller blades or bicycles can be arrested on DUI charges.
Sources close to the investigation say the now-defendant was booked into the Riverside County Jail and was held on undisclosed bail bonds.
Police said he sustained minor injuries as a result of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle was unharmed, according to RCSD deputies, and he was not ticketed or cited for his role in the accident.
Although it’s unclear if the defendant was released from custody through the help of a Riverside bondsman, if he did post bail bonds his first court date will be pushed back by about a month.
