A Coachella man has been booked into the Indio Jail after engaging Riverside County Sheriff’s in a standoff.
Suspect Jacob Nunez is accused of holding his mother hostage and firing his gun inside her home. He then kept deputies at bay for several hours before being taken into custody. Nunez’s bail has been set at $50,000. Should he or a member of his family want to hire an expert bondsman their cost would be $5,000, or 10%. They cosigner may not be required to post collateral depending on the company they choose to hire. At the current time it does not appear if anyone has attempted to bond the defendant out of jail.
The incident unfolded late last week after the defendant entered his mother’s home and held her there against her will. The woman was able to sneak to a back room and place a call to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. She indicated her son was acting erratically, that he fired his gun inside the residence and that he would not allow her to leave.
Deputies arrived a short time later and set up a perimeter. They tried to gt the suspect to surrender in a peaceful manner. Hostage negotiators were called to the scene. Medics and Cal Fire crews were also dispatched. Nunez’ mother reportedly escaped through a back door several hours later. The defendant eventually surrendered after deputies fired a chemical agent into the residence.
Anyone who believes they might have additional information about this crime is reportedly asked to call the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
