A man who has been connected to an accidental shooting has been arrested and detained by members of the Temecula Police Department. The defendant in question is 32 year-old Shawn Steward. Steward has since been booked into the Riverside County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. His bail has been set at $1 million.
Jail records indicate Steward does not have a probation, parole or immigration hold which means he is eligible for bail. In order to hire a bondsman either he, a family member or a friend would need to do two things. The first is to arrange for payment of the bond. Bail bonds in Temecula can be purchased for a cost equaling 10% of the total bail amount. In this case the bondsman’s fee would be $100,000. That money is non refundable regardless as to whether the defendant is found innocent or guilty. The second thing that would need to happen would involve the posting of collateral. Collateral would be required to secure a bond of this size based on the amount and the increased risk that the defendant would attempt to flee in order to evade prosecution.
Officers say incident reportedly took place earlier this week when a female was accidently shot at a party. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for non life threatening injuries. A Detective within the department said their investigation is ongoing. Anyone who believes they may have information pertaining to the crime is asked to call the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department to place an anonymous tip.
