A spokesperson for the University of Riverside Police Department said they have arrested two suspects who are believed to have robbed three people on the UCR campus.
Officers say defendants JC French and Marzaveus Reese are believed to have approached three individuals on separate occasions. Each victim had reportedly been walking alone in a parking structure at the time they were robbed. One of the robbers reportedly would produce a firearm. Two of the victims were struck with the weapon. All three said the assailants demanded they turn over wallets, watches and other items of value.
Police representatives said two of the three victims sustained minor injuries. Witnesses to the crime were able to provide an accurate description of the suspects. They were tracked and captured a short time later. Stolen property was recovered at the time of their arrest. Both men have since been booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. Defendant Reese is being charged with numerous felony counts including receiving stolen property, grand theft auto, second degree robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, among others. His bail has been set at $30,000.
Defendant French is being charged with assault with a firearm, attempted robbery and second degree robbery. His bail was also set at $30,000. He was released from custody on March 4 through the assistance of an expert Riverside bondsman. The cost to purchase a bond would have been $3,000, or 10%. It is unclear whether defendant French paid that amount in full or whether he enrolled in a bail bonds payment plan.
Both defendants are due to appear in court later this month. It is unclear whether they will plead guilty or not guilty at the time they are arraigned.
