The Banning Jail, also called the Larry D. Smith Correctional Center, has a colorful history. In the 1920’s, it was utilized by the “prison road gangs” that dealt with the construction of highways. Later, it served as an Internment Camp for the Japanese during World War II. After that, it was reused by prison road gangs.

Arrest and Booking

If your friend or family member was arrested in or around Banning, they will likely be transported to the Banning Jail for the booking process and remain there until released on bail.

They will be fingerprinted and have their photo taken for the “mug shots.” A background search will be done and a warrant search to see if the defendant has any open warrants in the U.S.

Once booking is complete, they will be able to access a phone to contact someone about bail. If they do not get bailed out, then the defendant will have to stay in jail until the conclusion of the court case.
